The Rules and Regulations
Beyond Your Style – A Street Dance Face-Off
1. All participants are required to adhere to this set of rules and regulations stipulated by the organizers to be eligible for participation in the competition.
2. “Beyond Your Style – A Street Dance Face-Off” (The “Competition”) is open to all nationalities of all ages.
3. Each of the crew members will have to produce his/her passport, NRIC and/or birth certificate (or such other identification document) for verification purpose upon reporting to the organizer.
4. The Organizer reserves the right to change, amend or withdraw the Rules and Regulations (or any part thereof) without prior notice.
5. All crew members will be required to sign an indemnity form, and return to the organizer.
6. Crew member(s) under the age of 21, are to have a parent/legal guardian's consent form be filled together with the registration.
7. Registration Form may be collected at Toa Payoh West Community Club.
8. The closing date for registration will be at 9pm on 15th November 2008.
9. Crews required to compete in two (2) rounds held on:
Audition: 7th December 2008, 12pm, Toa Payoh West CC
Final: 13th December 2008, 5pm, Toa Payoh West CC
10. All registration forms are to be completed and submitted along with a registration fee of S$20.00 per crew.
11. Payments are to be made personally at Toa Payoh West Community Club counter. Receipts are to be kept by participating group for proof of payments.
12. No refunds will be given for participating groups who backed out.
13. A crew must consists of a minimum of five (5) to a maximum of eight (8) members. A crew member is not allowed to compete in more than one (1) crew.
14. Time duration for audition should not exceed two (2) minutes.
During the Final, its must not exceed four (4) minutes of showcase and;
2 Battle rounds, four (4) minutes each round.
Duration of each dance item must not exceed the time limit given.
Crews will be penalized should they exceed the time limit.
15. Participants are to provide their own music via Audio CD format. The Organizer will not hold any responsibility for any disruption of music. Do bring a backup copy of the music.
16. Participating crews are required to attend all briefing session prior to the competition. The organizer will contact the team leaders to confirm the date and time of the briefing session.
17. Competition Details
10 Dance crews will qualify to the Final round.
Competition format for the Final will be a showcase of your dance routine and the Top 4 crews in the showcase round will be Facing Off in the dance battle.
The Top 4 crews will draw lots to determine the opponents they will be facing off.
The winning crews from the separate battles will be competing for the 1st and 2nd position while defeated crews will be competing for the 3rd position.
Crews are allowed to replace a maximum of one member under reasonable circumstances, subject to approval by the Organizer if qualify for the Final Round. It is the responsibility of the participants to inform the Organizer of any such changes promptly.
Participants who do not turn up or are late for the competition will be disqualified.
18. Street Dance Styles
List of Street Dance Styles which you can incorporate into your Dance routine:
Locking
Popping
Bboying/Bgirling (Breakdance)
Wacking
Vogueing
House Dance
Hip Hop Dance
Krumping
19. Attire
Participants are to provide their own costumes, hair styling and make-up, and groups are required to don proper attires.
Attire may include accessories such as hats, gloves, scarves, jewelries, etc. Removing pieces of clothing during the performance is permitted provided it is not offensive or out of character.
Support gear such as kneepads, helmets, or any performing apparatus to aid in the proper execution of a move is allowed.
Costumes are to be secured and avoid over exposure. T -shirts shall not bear any indecent words or graphics.
Loose attire/costume which not intact during competition may cause deduction of point.
20. Medical Attention
If a participant were to sustain major injuries (e.g. concussion, heavy bleeding on part/s of body), the injured member must have an immediate medical attention.
It is the responsibilities of the crew members to report a crew member’s injury or illness to the event organizer(s).
In any cases of serious injuries that need medical attention, the Organizer will determine on the necessity of sending the injured participant to the nearest hospital/medical facility. However, all medical expenses will be borne by such participant.
21. Conduct
Physical contact in battles will not be tolerated and may result in the disqualification for the crew involved. Inappropriate sexual gestures are not advised.
If there is any act of physical violence (e.g. punching, hitting, slapping) or any unruly behavior between any of the participants at any point (involving one or more participants), the crew will be immediately disqualified and involved participants will be immediately removed from the event and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken.
Dance theme or moves should not show level of violence; act of indecency or in any nature to offend racial/political/sexist matters.
The Organizer embraces sportsmanship, hence if any participant behaves in a manner which is unfair to any other participant or behaves in any other inappropriate manner, as determined by the panel of judges at their sole and absolute discretion, the crew could be disqualified. All decisions made by the Judges are final.
Participants are not permitted to smoke at the performance venues. No drugs or alcohol are permitted in the competition.
22. Performance Music Requirements.
The crew name must be written down clearly on the CD.
The music use must not contain inappropriate, lewd or offensive language.
The music must be submitted to the organizer when reporting for the event.
Battle Round
All music played during the battles will be selected by the Competition DJ or Organizer. Participants for the versus-battle will be randomly chosen by the Organizer at its sole and absolute discretion.
23. Practice Run
During the Final, each crew will be given the opportunity to practice (block) their routine with their music on stage. The crew must be punctual for their allocated time or it may be forfeited. Blocking time allocation will be informed by the Organizer at a later time and subject to availability of venue.
24. Judging Criteria
· The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
· The Showcase round will be judged based on the following criteria:
a. Choreography – 40% (Originality 20%, Creativity 20%)
b. Dance Skills – 40% (Technique 15%, Musicality 15%, Coordination 10%)
c. Stage Presence – 20% (Showmanship 10%, Costume & Appearance 10%)
· The Battle round will be judged based on the following criteria:
a. Choreography- 30%
(Originality 10%, Creativity 15%, Entertainment Value/ Crowd Appeal - 5%)
b. Teamwork - 20%
c. Musicality - 20%
d. Technique - 15%
e. Execution & Synchronization - 10%
f. Showmanship - 5%
· For the final Top 4 spots, the total results would be based on 30% of Showcase judging and 70% of Battle judging.
25. Prizes
1st S$ 1200.00 plus Medals & A Plaque
2nd S$ 800.00 plus Medals & A Plaque
3rd S$ 500.00 plus Medals & A Plaque
4th S$ 200.00 plus Medals & A Plaque
6 certificates of merit & S$50 vouchers
26. The Organizer shall not be liable to any of the participant(s) for any loss or damage or injuries or whatsoever caused arising directly or indirectly in connection with the Competition of any kind including loss of life that may sustain during the whole period of the event. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, each participant expressly acknowledges and agrees that the Organizer has expressly excluded liability for all direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage, including but not limited to injuries, loss or damage to other equipment or property or for loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings pursuant to the Competition.
27. Non-compliance with or any breach of any of the Rules and Regulations shall immediately disqualify the participant from any participation at any stage of the Competition, and any prizes won shall be forfeited, withheld or withdrawn. The Organizer further reserves the right, without any liability on its part whatsoever, to cancel, postpone, terminate, suspend, end, stop or in any other way cease the Competition at any time without prior notice.
28. The organizer will not be held responsible for any expenditure incurred by any participants of the competition.
29. The organizer reserves the right to publicize, and/or broadcast the winners’ name, likeness, image or character at any time the organizers deem fit.
30. The organizer reserves the right to change, amend or withdraw any of the rules and regulations stipulated without prior notice.
31. By participating in the Competition, the participants agree to be bound by the Rules and Regulations and hereby expressly agree to follow, abide by and adhere to the Rules and Regulations.
